Disable Automatic Trade Monitoring

Updated: September 24, 20252 min read

1. Background

OptionsApp allows you to disable automatic monitoring (Trade-Monitoring) for individual trades. This means that from that point on, the app will no longer manage the trade in any way, and all Close-Orders for that trade will be removed. You are then solely responsible for closing the trade and managing its risk, for example through manual orders in Interactive Brokers' TWS.

This function should only be used in exceptional cases, such as unexpected malfunction, technical issues, or for deliberate manual reworking of a trade.

2. Effects of Disabling

Disabling automatic Trade-Monitoring has the following consequences:

  • All open Close-Orders (e.g., Stop-Loss or Take-Profit) will be cancelled by OptionsApp.
  • OptionsApp stops monitoring this trade entirely. The trade will be marked with the status "Stopped" in the app.
  • No more automatic order placement or adjustment by OptionsApp.
  • The trade remains active in TWS; the app does not close it!

IMPORTANT: From this point on, you must handle all management (including any stops) manually.

3. How to: Disable Trade-Monitoring

  1. Switch to the "Dashboard" tab.
  2. Select the affected trade by clicking on the corresponding row.
  3. Click the "Disable Monitoring" icon in the toolbar.

A confirmation dialog will then open:

The dialog provides detailed information about the affected Close-Orders that will be removed. It also explicitly warns you that OptionsApp will no longer manage this trade after that.

Click "Confirm" to complete the deactivation.

4. Usage Recommendation

The "Disable Trade-Monitoring" function should only be used in exceptional cases, such as:

  • In case of technical malfunction in the trade logic
  • When you want to deliberately take over a trade manually
  • For emergency disconnection in case of incorrect orders or monitoring conflicts

For all other cases, it is recommended to continue managing trades through OptionsApp to ensure consistent documentation, automatic order management, and auditability.

This is also the intended route when a trade is to be steered by hand. Manual orders on contracts of a trade that is still monitored lead to conflicts instead: Manual Orders on Contracts Managed by OptionsApp.
