Manually edit executions/trades after the fact

Updated: September 24, 20252 min read

1. Background

In certain situations, it may be necessary to edit a trade after execution. This is the case, for example, if a closing order was executed in TWS but was not correctly recorded by OptionsApp (because OA was not connected, offline for several days, or similar). Manual adjustments may also be necessary for transmitted incorrect prices, manually executed exits, or incomplete execution data.

In such cases, OptionsApp allows you to manually change the closing price, the associated commission, and the time of closing per leg.

2. Navigation to Trade Editing

To edit an execution after the fact, proceed as follows:

  1. Switch to the "Evaluations" tab.
  2. Select the desired time period and the strategy to which the respective trade belongs.
  3. In the displayed trade list, select the corresponding trade.
  4. Click the edit icon above the trade table to open the Trade Settings dialog.

3. Editable Fields in the Trade Settings Dialog

In the trade editing dialog, all legs of the trade are listed as they were originally defined in the template. Depending on the number of legs, the following fields are available for editing per leg:

  • Close Price
  • Commission (of the closing order)
  • Date and time of closing

All entries refer to the closing order and must be adjusted separately per leg.

4. Import Closing Data via Clipboard

To simplify the process, OptionsApp offers the "From Clipboard" button, which allows data to be imported directly from the trading log:

  1. Copy the desired row from the TWS trading log (right-click, then "Copy" or CTRL+C).
  2. If the copied row is valid, the "From Clipboard" button is automatically enabled.
  3. Click the button for the corresponding leg. The data is imported directly into the fields.

Note: This function requires that the contract is correctly recognized. If no matching data is recognized, the button remains disabled and the data must be entered manually.

After manually or automatically adjusting the closing data, save it by clicking "Confirm". The trade is updated immediately and flows accordingly into all evaluations.
