Import & Export of Configurations

Updated: May 6, 20263 min read

1. Purpose and Overview

In OptionsApp, configurations can be exported and imported again. This allows you to back up existing settings, transfer them to a different Session, or reuse them at a later time.

Import and Export is available for the following areas:

The export is performed as a JSON file. This file can subsequently be imported again in the same or a different Session.

2. Exporting Configurations

The export is performed in the "Configuration" tab. In the respective areas for Trade Templates, Entry Conditions, Exit Conditions, and Strategies, there is an Import/Export button with an up arrow and a down arrow.

Using this button, you can select whether to import or export configurations.

2.1 Exporting Trade Templates

Trade Templates can be exported individually or in bulk.

To export a single Trade Template, use the Export button with the down arrow in the list of the respective Template. This saves exactly this Trade Template as a JSON file.

To export multiple or all Trade Templates, use the parent Import/Export button in the Trade Templates area. This allows the Templates listed there to be exported together.

2.2 Exporting Entry and Exit Conditions

Entry Conditions and Exit Conditions can also be exported individually or in bulk.

To export a single Entry or Exit Condition, use the Export button directly in the row of the respective Condition.

To export multiple Conditions, use the parent Import/Export button in the Entry Conditions or Exit Conditions area. This allows the Conditions listed there to be exported together as a JSON file.

2.3 Exporting Strategies

Strategies can be exported via the Import/Export button in the Strategies area.

When exporting a Strategy, not only the Strategy itself is exported, but also all associated components. These include in particular:

  • associated Trade Templates
  • linked Entry Conditions
  • linked Exit Conditions

This allows a Strategy to be fully re-imported later without having to transfer the associated Templates or Conditions separately.

2.4 Exporting Complete Configuration

In the Strategies area, there is also an "Export All" function available.

"Export All" exports the complete configuration of the currently selected Underlying. The export always refers to the Underlying tab you are currently in.

All relevant configurations of this Underlying are exported, including Strategies, Trade Templates, and Entry and Exit Conditions.

3. Importing Configurations

Import is also performed via the Import/Export button in the respective area.

After selecting "Import", a JSON file is selected. OptionsApp then displays which contents are contained in this file.

Before importing, you can select which elements should actually be imported. This means you don't necessarily have to adopt all contents of a file.

When importing entire Strategies, the associated Trade Templates as well as linked Entry and Exit Conditions are also imported, provided they are part of the export file.

After import, the Strategy should be fully reviewed before being actively used.

⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTES ON IMPORT:

  • Only configurations can be imported whose Underlying and Trading Class have previously been activated in OptionsApp.
  • Strategies that use a Webhook as an Entry or Exit Condition cannot be adopted without further steps. The Webhook is user-specific and must be regenerated after import. OptionsApp will also display a corresponding note during import.

4. Importing Configurations from Other Users

When a configuration is imported that was exported by another user, OptionsApp displays an additional risk notice.

This notice must be actively confirmed. It indicates that the imported configuration does not originate from your own user account.

Before using imported configurations, all settings must be carefully reviewed. This includes in particular:

  • Trade Templates
  • Legs and Quantities
  • Search Criteria
  • Entry and Exit Conditions
  • P/L Actions
  • Execution Times
  • Max Execution
  • assigned Accounts and Settings

⚠️ It is always the responsibility of the user to fully understand imported Strategies, Templates, and Conditions and to review them before use.

Strategies imported from another user are marked accordingly. If such a Strategy is activated, an additional warning notice appears, which must be confirmed again.

5. Activation of Imported Strategies

Imported Strategies are not automatically activated.

After import, each Strategy must be explicitly reviewed and then manually activated. This prevents imported Strategies from being unintentionally executed automatically.

Before activation you should in particular verify that all associated Templates, Conditions, Account settings, and Trading hours match your own Session and Account.
