Recommended TWS Restart Settings

Interactive Brokers' Trader Workstation (TWS) is automatically shut down once daily by default. However, if no automatic restart is configured, TWS will remain closed after this shutdown, this requires manual restart and login to TWS.

To avoid this, you can set up a daily automatic restart. However, it's important to note that TWS will automatically restart itself for a maximum of one week. After that, a manual login is necessary!

You can configure the restart with the following settings. The parameters correspond to our recommended settings:

🔧 Here's how you set up automatic restart:

1. Open the settings in TWS and go to "Lock and Exit" (see screenshot).
2. In the "Auto Logoff Timer" section, enable the "Auto restart" option.
3. Set the time to 05:30 PM (example for US Eastern Time)
   This corresponds to 23:30 CET (Central European Time). This time is after US market close and is ideal since there are typically no open orders or new trading decisions pending.
4. Also enable the "Auto save settings" option to ensure your configurations are preserved.
