When placing an order, the following error message may appear:
The open order for the trade 'Strategy name [Trade number]' was rejected by IB and could not be placed.
IB Server Error: 'Order rejected - Reason: Opening a position not permitted: To accept your order in this security, please login to Client Portal and verify with the token we emailed you. Once you verify, please wait several minutes to re-transmit the order: https://ndcdyn.interactivebrokers.com/sso/Login'
This message does not come from OptionsApp, but is transmitted directly from Interactive Brokers or Trader Workstation to OptionsApp and displayed unchanged.
1. Difference between Error Messages from OptionsApp and TWS
Basically, there are two types of error messages.
Error Messages from OptionsApp
These messages are generated by OptionsApp itself. They relate to functions or checks within the application and are formulated by OptionsApp.
Error Messages from TWS
These messages come directly from Interactive Brokers or Trader Workstation. OptionsApp merely forwards these messages 1:1 and does not change the content.
The error message shown above falls into this second category.
2. What This Error Message Means
Based on our experience, the wording of this message from Interactive Brokers is somewhat misleading.
Although the text suggests that verification in the Client Portal is required, the actual cause in many cases lies with trading permissions or market data.
Our experience shows that this error message typically indicates one of the following problems:
- Missing or insufficient trading permissions for options
- Missing market data subscriptions
3. Check Trading Permissions
First, verify that your Interactive Brokers account has the required trading permissions.
Options Level 4 is required for options trading.
If this permission is missing, orders may be rejected by Interactive Brokers.
4. Check Market Data
Next, verify that the required market data is activated.
For trading with OptionsApp's standard strategies, market data for the following underlyings is particularly needed:
- SPX
- VIX
If you trade additional underlyings, you must also have the corresponding market data for these.
Market data can be easily checked in Trader Workstation:
- Open the desired underlying in TWS.
- Check whether alternating green and red dots are displayed next to the respective underlying.
- Verify that the price changes regularly.
If no current prices are displayed, the required market data is typically missing.
5. Contact Support
If trading permissions are set up correctly, all required market data is present, and the error message persists, please contact Support directly.
Support can be reached at info@optionsapp.de and will be happy to help you with further analysis.
